Our Beginnings
Original Founders
Denise Downing of Marietta and Mimi Greek
first met through a meditation group. It was during those gatherings that the idea for the organization began to take shape.
Denise developed an interest in Tibetan Buddhist monks connected to a monastery in the Miami area and hoped to bring them to our community. Around the same time, Ron Cole moved from Colorado to Tavernier, bringing with him his support for establishing a U.S. Department of Peace.
Together, they began attracting others who shared their commitment to promoting peace. Recognizing the need for an official organization, Denise—a retired attorney—led the process of establishing it as a legally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
Over the years, the organization grew and hosted numerous peace-building events throughout the community. After several key members passed away or moved, activity slowed. Later, DeeDee stepped into a leadership role and brought renewed energy, purpose, and life to the organization.

Mimi Greek
Mimi Greek is one of the original founders of Keys to Peace. A retired teacher, author, life coach, and lifelong advocate for children and peace, her work centers on helping people discover their inner strengths and the transformative power of kindness, compassion, and connection.
Her newest passion is exploring AI as a creative partner — blending her writing with music and animation to craft uplifting messages for children and adults alike. Mimi believes that lasting change begins within each of us, and that when we lead with love, together we can create a more peaceful world.
